GPS Black FridayI've had this Garmin product for over a year, and initially I was thrilled with my purchase. I bought the GPS because I was moving to a new city and needed help getting around, as I am directionally challenged. Bottom line this product works, I've used it in the city and on longer trips around the country. It reliably gives directions with adequate prompting and accurate directions. However, as I've used it more I've noticed some deficiencies. For instance, over the past month the GPS has started to randomly cut off while in use, even while it displays that it has an adequate charge. This is obviously a problem, because it means that I don't know where I'm going. It also takes the GPS a really long time to come up with a new route, if you miss a turn while driving. I also recommend that you get Lifetime Updates at time of purchase, because I did not and now I have to decide whether I want to pay fifty bucks for the update or just buy a new unit, given that this one is not working properly at this point.
I now own 3 of these, I started out buying one for both my daughters, finally I used it and really enjoyed having it on a trip, the estimated time of arrival is always within a few minutes regardless of length of trip. I have not experienced any problems with these units. When I decided to buy the third unit I noticed they had an upgraded version of the same model. I elected to stay with what I new to be a good unit and really can't see spending the extra money for a newer model. I am not interested in the traffic routing capabilities of this unit so I can't comment on its effectiveness. I will say this, if your in a large vehicle do not use the shortest distance mode as you will see parts of your state you had no idea existed! If your like me and your not much for direction reading remember this - put your final destination in first then add your VIA points to take the route you prefer.
